BarkingandDagenhampolice'sfailingshaveledtohugeangeramongstthefamiliesofPort'svictims.Somehaveaccusedthepoliceofinstitutionalhomophobia,andaskedifofficerswouldhaveinvestigatedmorethoroughly,hadfouryoungwomenturnedupdeadwithinsuchasmallradius. TheMetpolicehavereferredthemselvestotheIndependentPoliceComplaintsCommissionovertheirhandlingofthecaseandwillnotcommentonspecificallegationsuntiltheIPCCinvestigationiscomplete.
