On2June1953,ononeofthecoldestJunedaysofthecenturyandafter16monthsofplanning,TheQueensetoutfromBuckinghamPalacetobecrownedatWestminsterAbbey,watchedbymillionsofpeoplethroughouttheworld.AceremonydatingbackmorethanathousandyearswastomarkthedawnofanewElizabethanage.  Viewingbothprivateandofficialfilmfootage,TheQueenrecallsthedaywhentheweightofbothStEdward'sCrownandthehopesandexpectationsofacountryrecoveringfromwarwereonhershoulders,asthenationlookedtotheir27year-oldQueentoleadthemintoanewera.  Inthefilm,TheQueensays:「I'veseenoneCoronation,andbeentherecipientintheother,whichisprettyremarkable.」  ForaudiencesunfamiliarwiththestoryoftheCrownJewelsandtheregalia,thefilmexplainstheircontemporaryrelevancetotheUKasanationandtotheenduringpurposeandtheworkofmonarchy.TheyaresymbolsoftherelationshipbetweentheSovereignandthepeople,andthedutiesandresponsibilitiesofleadership.
