In1672,twowitches(JenniferandherfatherDaniel)wereburnedbypuritanJonathanWooley.Inrevenge,JennifercursedallfuturegenerationsoftheWooleyfamily,thatthesonswillalwaysmarrythewrongwomanandbemiserable.Inthe20thcentury,aboltoflightningfreesJenniferandherfatherfromthetreethathadkepttheirsoulsimprisoned.Jenniferassumescorporealformanddecidestomakeup-and-comingpoliticianWallaceWooley,thenunhappilyengaged,evenmoremiserablebygettinghimtofallinlovewithherbeforehiswedding.Wallaceisastraightarrow,though,andJenniferhastoresorttoalovepotion.Asweallknow,lovepotionstendtobackfire,withcomedicresults.
